A father and his five children lost everything they owned after a devastating fire destroyed their home.
Firefighters say the family's mobile home was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived at the scene on the 2400 block of E. 4th St. in Pueblo. The fire was spreading to adjacent homes, but firefighters managed to save those structures. One home, which was vacant, suffered heat and smoke damage. A third had minor damage.
Brandon Romero, who is a single father, said he was inside the home when it caught fire.
'I couldn't even see," he said.
Romero told 11 News that in all the confusion and chaos, he didn't realize that someone else had gotten his daughter to safety. For a few frantic moments, he thought she was still inside.
"I'm trying to put out the fire...smoke is going everywhere...I guess someone came in and grabbed her (his daughter), I'm freaking out because I don't know if she's out out, so I'm still in the house trying to find her...I guess someone got her out," Romero said.
The fire is believed to have originated in one of the rear bedrooms. The cause is under investigation.
The Red Cross is helping the family.
